French colocation firm Nation Data Center has launched a new facility in Rennes.

“This data center embodies our ambition: to offer a sovereign, responsible, and local infrastructure, at the service of the territories and the digital transition," the company posted on LinkedIn this week.

NDC Roazhon, located on a 4,000 sqm (43,055 sq ft) plot of land in Noyal-sur-Vilaine, Brittany, offers 3MW across 3,000 sqm (32,300 sq ft) with capacity for around 560 racks.

Local press reports the €30 million ($35m) site has launched with four customers.

Ludovic Castillo, president of Nation Data Center, said: “The inauguration of NDC Rennes marks a major step forward in our deployment plan. This first data center embodies our desire to propose a French response to the crucial challenges of sovereignty and digital security, while fully integrating environmental requirements. Our ambition is clear: to build by 2030 a network of 15 data centers, all located in France, in order to offer our customers a high level of security, sovereignty, and responsible performance.”

Founded in 2020 and previously owned by French investment firm Bakjy Group, Nation DC was acquired by French investment firm Altarea in 2022. Crédit Agricole is also reportedly an investor.

Nation DC first announced plans for the Brittany facility in March 2022 and broke ground last year.

The company is also developing a site in Normandy. Announced in August 2022, the site is due to launch in 2027.

The company aims to operate 15 sites by 2030. It lists two planned sites around Paris as future data center locations on its website. Local press reports the company is developing in the Vélizy area of Yvelines outside the French capital.

Nation has previously listed planned projects in Bordeaux, Marseille, Nice, Toulouse, Lille, Lyon, and Strasbourg, and had an agreement to offer space in Thésée DataCenters’ Aubergenville facility outside Paris.
