Foxconn wants to become the world’s largest manufacturer of quantum computing systems, chairman Young Liu has said.
Speaking during an interview with CNBC, Liu said the company had identified an opportunity to work with quantum hardware companies to produce quantum computers without entering the market itself.
“We focus on manufacturing,” Liu said. “We hope we can become the largest quantum computer manufacturer in the world without owning that technology.”
However, when asked when quantum computing will become “commercially viable,” Liu said he believed it would be at least another two years, not just for Foxconn but for the whole industry.
Liu added that while quantum hardware would never replace CPUs or GPUs, there was a clear requirement for quantum computing for certain problems and workloads that “are very difficult for the classical computer to solve because it takes a much longer period of time.”
He added: “I would not say that will be the next revolutionary computing devices. It will be a new addition to the compute devices with a special function that accelerates certain computations.”
Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn, officially known as Hon Hai Technology Group, made a name for itself manufacturing iPhones but emerged as one of the big winners of the AI boom, becoming the largest producer of Nvidia servers.
In August 2025, the company announced that it had generated more revenue from the production and sale of servers than it did from its consumer electronics division for the first time in company history.
