Evolution Data Centres has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) to develop a green hyperscale ready data center in the Philippines.
As part of the MoU, the companies have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for up to 100MW of renewable energy to power the data center.
According to the companies, the new data center will run entirely on renewable energy sources.
Further details on the PPA and the data center were not immediately available. DCD has contacted both parties for additional information.
“The Philippines has an attractive outlook for renewable power growth and an open access power market, which positions it well to be a key beneficiary of the next phase of data center market growth,” said Darren Webb, CEO of Evolution Data Centres.
The deal reflects the broader growth of the Philippine data center market, which is expected to exceed 135MW of IT load capacity by 2027.
In March 2023, Evolution announced its first data center in the Philippines, partnering with Megawide to develop a 69MW colocation data center in Cavite, south of Manila. The company said phase 1 will feature a 23MW deployment spread over five years inside a four-hectare property.
Following this, in June 2023, it partnered with Thai property developer Central Pattana PCL to build a new data center in Bangkok. The joint venture deal will see the two companies develop a 34MW carrier-neutral data center in central Bangkok, Thailand. Phase 1 of the facility is expected to be operational in H2 2024.
Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Singapore, Evolution received backing from Warburg Pincus last year.
CREC is a renewable energy company that develops and operates solar, hydro, and wind projects in the Philippines. It is also the sponsor of the Philippine's first and largest renewable energy REIT, Citicore Energy REIT (CREIT), which has an equivalent gross installed solar generation capacity of 145MW.
