Jeremy Mickler has joined OpenAI's growing internal data center team to support its Stargate buildout.

Mickler spent nearly ten years at Equinix, most recently as the design director of the global design and construction team. Colocation giant Equinix operates more than 270 data centers around the world.

"This transition comes with tremendous gratitude — for the people, challenges, growth, and shared belief in pushing our industry forward that brought me to this moment," Mickler said.

"In this new role, I’m energized by the opportunity to help shape where and how the next generation of GPU-scale data centers come to life. Land development is where vision meets reality, and the choices we make today will influence communities, infrastructure, and possibility for years to come. It’s meaningful work, and I’m proud to step into it."

Mickler said that his role will be to "de-risk multibillion-dollar projects at GPU scale and accelerate efficient delivery."

OpenAI is developing a number of Stargate mega clusters in the US, as well as multiple projects around the world, alongside partners like Crusoe, Vantage, and Related.

Mickler joins a number of high-profile data center hires at OpenAI, including Apple's director of data center engineering, AWS Trainium's lead mechanical thermal engineer, Cloudflare's director and head of capacity engineering & analysis, Meta's head of AI compute and storage supply chain, Google's TPM for data center infrastructure design, DeepMind's engineering manager, Tesla's thermal engineer and manager as well as a machine learning engineer, among others.
