Anurag Reddy has joined OpenAI's rapidly growing infrastructure team.

Reddy spent the last six years at content delivery network services giant Cloudflare, most recently as the director and head of capacity engineering & analysis.

At Cloudflare, Reddy on LinkedIn said that he was "Responsible for scaling one of the world's largest global networks, spanning over 100 countries & processing trillions of transactions."

He added that he led "all data center expansion planning verticals: global Edge compute & bandwidth growth, colocation, network and DCI hardware, core hardware, inventory, and deployment resource."

Prior to his time at Cloudflare, Reddy spent more than six years working on capacity planning for flash memory provider SanDisk.

OpenAI is building out its own compute infrastructure, primarily through its $500 billion Stargate joint venture, which is headed up by the director of physical infrastructure, Keith Heyde, who joined from Meta.

The company continues to operate a substantial presence in Microsoft's Azure cloud (some of which also turns to Oracle Cloud when capacity is constrained). OpenAI is additionally looking to spend billions on capacity with neocloud CoreWeave.

As part of its own buildout, the company in March hired Chris Malone as its head of data centers. Malone spent the last four years at Meta and nearly 13 years at Google working on data center infrastructure and IT hardware R&D. The hire has not been previously reported.

At the same time as building its own data centers, OpenAI is believed to be developing its own AI semiconductors in partnership with Broadcom, led by former Google TPU co-creator Richard Ho.
