Nordic fiber broadband and data center firm GlobalConnect is reportedly up for sale.

Its current owner, investor EQT, sent documents to potential buyers earlier this week, according to a report in the FT.

It hopes to fetch €8 billion ($9.41bn) for the company it acquired in 2016.

Goldman Sachs has apparently been appointed to oversee the sale, with Antin Infrastructure Partners pinpointed as a potential buyer. EQT and Goldman Sachs declined to comment when approached by the FT.

GlobalConnect operates a 244,000km (151,614 miles) fiber network across Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Finland. It also offers 35,000 sqm (376,735 sq ft) of data center space across 17 facilities in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Germany.

Earlier this month, the company initiated a project to establish four new subsea cable systems in the Baltic Sea connecting Sweden, Estonia, and Finland.

In July, it announced plans for a new subsea cable between Sweden and Finland, via Åland, which will be completed in 2026. With all routes combined, GlobalConnect will offer a 1,250km (776.7 miles) fiber ring in the Baltic Sea.

Founded in 1998, EQT Infrastructure has been GlobalConnect’s majority shareholder since 2016, with Mubadala joining as a minority investor in 2022.
