Electricity retailer Energa Obrót, renewable energy developer Central Energy Group (CGE), and the municipality of Konin have signed a letter of intent (LOI) to develop a data center project in the Polish city, according to Property News.pl.

Spearheaded by CGE, construction is scheduled to begin in early 2027 at a total cost of just under €3 billion ($3.4bn). The project will be built in stages, with the first phase yielding 100MW of IT compute capacity. This could rise to 260MW if the municipality approves further phases. DCD has approached Energa Obrót and CGE for comment.

“The scale of this investment speaks for itself,” said the energy retailer’s vice-president, Paweł Nowak. “The construction of the Konin Data Center is a milestone in the development of the digital services sector in Poland.”

First proposed in April 2026, CGE’s data center in Konin will be constructed in partnership with real estate consultant JLL. The necessary environmental and building permits for the first phase of construction were granted by the municipality of Konin in January and May 2026, respectively. The facility will include four buildings housing servers, and structures housing offices, technical infrastructure, and 12 underground fuel tanks.

According to Inzynier budownictwa, the data center's power needs will be met by the Konin coal-fired power plant, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and several solar energy plants. CGE itself owns a 2MW solar plant and an 18MW onshore wind farm in the central Polish villages of Rychwał and Kraśnica, respectively. A district heating network siphoning waste heat from the data center’s server rooms has also been proposed.

Konin’s mayor Piotr Korytkowski welcomed the LOI, saying that the data center could transform the municipality into an AI hub for Poland and Europe. “We also expect significant revenue from property taxes,” he added. It is one of several large data center projects announced in Poland in recent months, including a 40MW facility to be developed by cloud services operator Polcom in Skawina in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship and a 3.2GW project in Choczewo, Pomeranian Voivodeship, spearheaded by WBS Power.
