“Warsaw, here we come! Today, we’ve acquired our first ~50,000 sqm (538,195 sq ft) data center site in Poland with Switch Datacenters. Starting with 30MVA, expanding to 90MVA power,” Han de Groot, Switch managing partner, said on LinkedIn this week “Very excited to apply our magic Switch Datacenters sauce to below potato field: circular designs, smart modular building, and efficient operations.”

Further details on location, specifications, and timelines weren’t shared. The project isn’t currently listed on Switch’s website.

The company reportedly chose Poland for its first international foray due to the country’s strong fiber links, multiple subsea cables landing on the Baltic coast, low-latency gateway to Eastern markets, and reliable infrastructure with competitive power pricing.

Switch Datacenters, not to be confused with US operator Switch Inc, operates three data centers (AMS2, 3, and 4) in the Amsterdam region.

The operator also has another facility (AMS5) planned and will lease a sixth facility from Principal Asset Management - both in Amsterdam.

The company’s original AMS1 facility was acquired by Equinix in 2019.

de Groot is also managing director for the De Groot Family Office, which is an investor in Switch.

Other data center operators in Poland include Beyond.pl, Altman, Iliad's Opcore, and Data4.
