Digital Realty is looking to expand one of its data center campuses in Loudoun County, Virginia.

Via its Digital Western Lands, LLC affiliate, Digital Realty has submitted an application with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District to expand its Dulles Digital campus off Old Ox Road.

The company is requesting to modify an existing permit to allow for the construction of two additional data center buildings, relocation and expansion of two substations, expansion of an overhead electrical transmission easement, and updates to stormwater management facilities.

The proposed modification includes impacts on additional wetlands and streams.

Located in Sterling, Digital Realty has previously told DCD that Digital Dulles could total 14 buildings and up to 1GW of capacity via six substations. Originally set to total some 7.5 million sq ft across 425 acres, but since upped to 11.7 million sq ft, the company has billed it as the world’s largest multi-tenant data center campus.

Digital acquired the site (previously known as Western Lands) in 2018 and filed plans to develop the campus in 2020, with the first building delivered in 2023. The company bought the site from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority for $236.5 million. At least four of the buildings being developed at the Digital Dulles site are part of a joint venture with Blackstone.
