Named Minnesota 2, it will be Compass's second facility in Minnesota, and the 23rd facility run by the company across the US and Canada.

Minnesota 2 was developed in conjunction with data center development firm AAIM, which will own the facility and provide the infrastructure and power management.

Meanwhile, Compass Mining will be responsible for operating the site and implementing the agreed power strategy, while providing on-site and remote monitoring.

AAIM currently has facilities in development or operation across the Midwest, with 30MW of power online, and another 30MW under development, according to the company’s website. As well as Minnesota, tit has one site live (Aurora) and another in development (Hastings) in Nebraska, and one in Missouri.

AAIM recently announced the launch of a 15MW facility (known as Minnesota 1) in the city of Blue Earth, Minnesota.

Compass Mining states that the collaboration with AAIM is “designed to give customers more options while maintaining high uptime and consistent service levels,” according to the press release.

“Minnesota 2’ reflects our focus on dependable operations and meaningful customer choice,” said Karoon Mackenchery, director of hosting services at Compass Mining. “By operating the site directly, we can deliver a better experience and offer more options aligned with customers’ mining strategies."

The site is located within the Midcontinent Independent System Operator market, known as MISO, which operates the regional power grid and wholesale energy markets in Minnesota.

Compass has partnered with multiple companies to develop Bitcoin mining sites in recent months.

In July, it signed an agreement with DIGTB - an industrial developer and manager of real estate assets with energy infrastructure - to launch a 4.5MW site in Iowa.

In August, Compass partnered with OnMine to launch a 10MW site in Texas, which also included an agreement with Giga Energy - a manufacturer of electrical infrastructure - to provide air-cooled, modular data centers.

In June, Compass expanded its own hosting contract with Soluna by 8MW at Soluna’s Dorothy 1 and Dorothy 2 sites in Texas.
