Bitcoin mining and infrastructure provider Compass Mining has announced the energization of a new 4.5MW site in Iowa.

Dubbed ‘Pioneer IA5’, the site is being developed in partnership with DIGTB, an industrial developer and manager of real estate assets with energy infrastructure.

The site will support self-mining operations for both Compass Mining and DIGTB, with Compass Mining providing the mining hardware, and DIGTB securing energy contracts and managing on-site operations.

"This partnership highlights Compass Mining's ability to maximize the value of our resources through thoughtful collaboration," said Karoon Mackenchery, director of Hosting Services at Compass Mining.

"By converting underutilized machines into productive assets, we are extending their service life and supporting a more resilient, efficient operation for Compass Mining and its hosting customers. Partnerships like this ensure we remain a reliable offtake option for customers upgrading their fleets,” Mackenchery added.

Compass Mining says it views the site as an opportunity to trial new infrastructure partners while incurring minimal risk and delivering immediate operational benefits.

DIGTB also said it was breaking ground on a new 40MW site, for which it will partner with Compass Mining. Further details weren't shared.

DIGTB CEO, Paul Thiara, said: "We're excited to partner with Compass Mining, an industry leader in Bitcoin miner hosting.”

Thiara added: “As we continue to deploy capital toward larger-scale developments, including a 40MW site we are breaking ground on, having a trusted partner like Compass Mining by our side is critical.”

In June 2025, Compass Mining expanded its hosting contract with data center developer Soluna, adding a further 8MW of capacity onto its existing 5MW contract with the data center firm.

The energization of Compass Mining’s Pioneer IA5 site reflects the company's broader strategy of serving both small-scale individual miners as well as large-scale industrial miners.

Depending on the continued development of the Pioneer IA5 site, Compass Mining signalled its intention to potentially expand beyond its 4.5MW arrangement with DIGTB.

The deal between Compass Mining and DIGTB was coordinated by Hunter-Douglas International, LLC - a broker focusing on the hosting, acquisition, and capital raising of deals relating to Bitcoin mining.

Compass operates mining hardware in some 20 sites across Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, Nebraska, Texas, and North Dakota in the US, as well as Manitoba and Ontario in Canada. The company says its capacity totals 160MW.
