Bitcoin mining firm Bitdeer Technologies Group has announced that it is looking to develop a data center campus in Portage County, Ohio, with a potential power capacity of 750MW.
The Singapore-based crypto mining and AI infrastructure firm has a contract to buy around 257 acres at the Turnpike Commerce Center in Shalersville Township, according to a report by News 5 Cleveland.
The proposed campus would include 15 buildings and would be developed with local real estate firm Geis Cos., which is behind the wider business park.
The project would initially have around 150MW of power capacity, with the potential to expand to 750MW if the full campus is built out.
Bitdeer senior project manager Paul Hanson told News 5 that the company is focused on Ohio and sees the state as attractive for both data centers and crypto mining facilities.
According to a dedicated project website, the first phase of the Shalersville development would include two data halls and a 51,500 sq ft (4,784 sqm) office building at the southwestern end of the site. The data halls would each span around 48,000 sq ft (4,460 sqm).
A second phase would add another 12 data halls. Bitdeer said the full campus would take around five years to build and cost more than $300 million, not including computing equipment.
The company said the first phase would create 30 to 50 permanent jobs, rising to 150 to 200 jobs if the full campus is completed.
The project is not yet approved. Shalersville Township currently has a moratorium on data center development, which is due to run until early November. Township officials told News 5 that the pause was introduced to give them time to study the sector and consider rules covering noise, lighting, landscaping, building size, utility use, and fire suppression.
A public meeting on the proposal is scheduled for June 16 at Shalersville Township Hall.
Bitdeer and Geis have sought to address local concerns around water use and noise. Hanson said the first group of buildings would use a closed-loop cooling system that recycles liquid and would require around 350 gallons of water per day. The site would not use wells.
The company also said it would use sound walls, earth mounds, and landscaping to reduce noise from cooling equipment.
Bitdeer reportedly is not seeking tax breaks for the Shalersville development. Hanson told News 5 that the company expects the first phase to generate around $2.17m a year in property tax revenue and has offered to make up the difference if revenues fall below that level.
The proposal adds to Bitdeer’s growing Ohio pipeline. The company is already developing a 221MW Bitcoin mining site in Massillon, around an hour southwest of Shalersville, where a fire damaged two buildings back in November 2025, as DCD reported at the time.
Bitdeer has also outlined plans for a 570MW site in Clarington, Ohio, and a 300MW grid-connected development site in Niles.
The company has been shifting parts of its portfolio toward AI and high-performance computing as crypto miners look to reuse power, land, and electrical infrastructure for higher-value compute workloads.
