In recent times, Compass has carved out a niche by providing the infrastructure, management, and energy requirements for other mining companies to get set up in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining.

As stated in the company’s recent press release, Compass views the current successful energization as proof of its position as a “leader in operations-as-a-service,” which it primarily provides for enterprise and institutional clients.

The 20MW Texas site is powered in accordance with the state electricity council, ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Inc.).

Compass also draws attention to its close collaborations with other local energy providers around the mid-continent and Southwest areas in the US, such as the PJM Interconnection (PJM), the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) power markets.

This, according to Compass, is what makes it one of the most efficient hosting providers at providing turnkey mining infrastructure across the US.

Karoon Mackenchery, Senior Director of Mining Services at Compass Mining, pointed out the complexities of providing mining “operations-as-a-service.”

"The mining machines and data center infrastructure are only half of the story. To run a successful Bitcoin mining operation, it's essential to have operational excellence and strategic management. With four power markets under our belt, we bring the expertise to deliver more control, competitive rates, and reliable uptime for retail and institutional miners alike,” said Mackenchery.

Compass operates Bitcoin mining operations across more than 20 sites in the US, including Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, Nebraska, Texas, North Dakota, and Wyoming, as well as in Manitoba and Ontario, Canada. The company states that its total capacity exceeds 160MW.

The miner has energized several sites in 2025. In September, the firm energized a new 7.5MW site in Minnesota.

In August, in partnership with Onmine, it announced the full energization of a 10MW cryptomine data center facility in Texas.

In July, Compass Mining energized a 4.5MW site in Iowa in collaboration with DIGTB, an industrial developer and manager of real estate assets with energy infrastructure.

In June, Compass expanded its own hosting contract with Soluna by 8MW at Soluna’s Dorothy 1 and Dorothy 2 sites in Texas.

According to its website, 360 Energy has deployed 14 of its containerized IFC/Apex Gas Offtake units to date. After first deploying at its own wells in 2021, the company says it has partnered with several companies for deployments in Texas, including Norwood Energy and Barnett Shale.
