US cable firm Comcast is to convert a former bank in New Jersey into a small data center.

As reported by My Central Jersey, the Clinton Town land use board recently approved the conversion of a vacant bank in the Hunterdon County town into a data center.

Comcast Cable will use the former TD Bank building, at 92 W. Main Street, to house computer servers and equipment. Two generators will be installed.

Set just over an acre, the 2,170 sq ft (201 sqm) building has been vacant for eight to ten years. Comcast will remove the drive-through area in the back of the property. The property will not be manned constantly.

Online listings suggest the single-story building was built around 1975 and last renovated around 2017.

Last year, Comcast filed to develop a data center in Texas. In a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration, the company said it aims to develop the Willis Data Center at 606 TX-75 in Willis, Montgomery County. The $7.5 million project is described as a new construction of a 5,200 sq ft (485 sqm) data center. The site is currently undeveloped. Development is set to run from November 2024 to February 2026.

The previous year, the company put an office and data center at 650 Centerton Road in Moorestown, on the outskirts of Philadelphia in New Jersey, on the market in a sale-leaseback deal.

DataCenterMap lists four Comcast facilities in the US; the in-development site in Willis and one each in Colorado, Maryland, and West Chester, Pennsylvania (at 1354 Boot Road).
