Digital infrastructure company Colt Technology Services (Colt) has expanded its network in Istanbul, Türkiye, to keep up with the demands of AI.

As part of the company's expansion in the city, Colt's infrastructure now connects to two data centers in the city - one on Istanbul’s Asian side and the other on its European side. According to Colt, this provides businesses with high‑capacity services built for AI‑driven workloads.

Before this expansion, Colt previously operated a single Point of Presence (PoP) in the city.

The company notes that the second PoP will significantly improve resilience and reach, while enabling both local and international customers to "access a broader portfolio of next-generation, scalable networking solutions, designed to support the growing demands of cloud adoption, data-intensive workloads and AI-driven applications."

The location of Istanbul is significant, given that the city spans two continents, connecting Europe with Asia.

Colt notes that the second PoP in Istanbul will strengthen its presence in the region and will enable the company to support large enterprises, wholesale and carrier customers, plus hyperscalers and neoclouds in this market.

The company adds that it creates alternative east-west and north-south routes, providing direct connectivity in central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, central Asia, and the Caucasus, and parts of North Africa.

Because of this, Colt notes that it reduces reliance on a small number of traditional Western European hubs, improves redundancy and failover for global customers, delivers more resilient global connectivity, and lowers risk. It also allows for shorter, more direct data paths between regions and ensures fewer network hops compared with routing traffic via Western Europe alone.

‍“Demand for high-capacity, low-latency infrastructure in Türkiye and its surrounding regions is rising fast, driven by factors such as AI workloads, cloud adoption, and digital transformation," said Joe Scattareggia, EVP – infrastructure and connectivity sales, Colt Technology Services.

"Deepening our local presence in Istanbul means we can serve enterprise customers in‑country, meet data-residency, performance, and resilience requirements, and support hyperscalers and neoscalers expanding into the region. It’s an exciting part of our continued investment in building exceptional infrastructure that powers the global AI economy.”
