Saudi telco stc group has partnered with Chinese telecoms giant Huawei to launch a new cloud-based system intended to deliver telecom services that require less physical resources and energy.

According to the companies, The Green Telco Cloud, built on Huawei's cloud-native architecture, will integrate energy-efficient servers with dynamic power management and adaptive Central Processing Unit (CPU) frequency scaling into a unified, automated, and converged infrastructure.

The system is managed via a centralized dashboard that provides full-stack telemetry, carbon impact analytics, and automated shutdown of idle resources.

The companies claim that through consolidating network functions within a single intelligent platform, stc will be able to deliver faster, more sustainable, and efficient services, while reducing energy consumption, lowering emissions, and enabling next-generation technologies such as 5G-A.

The system will run on three layers. The hardware foundation will utilize energy-aware servers that adjust power use based on traffic demand. The software function will enable service flexibility across both traditional systems and container-based environments, and the centralized operations layer will oversee performance, track environmental data, and power down idle equipment when not in use.

The platform was validated through joint lab trials using Huawei's latest Green technologies, including power-efficient chipsets and intelligent controls. The partners claim that the system achieved up to 20 percent less energy consumption and a 40 percent reduction in physical infrastructure, with measurable improvements in operational simplicity.

stc (formally known as Saudi Telecom Company) is the largest telecommunications and digital services provider in the Middle East and North Africa. The telco firm has secured several high-profile contracts in recent years, most recently winning a bid to run Syria’s ‘Silklink’ project.
