Amazon Web Services (AWS) has said that it, along with Humain, will bring the first 50MW of capacity online at the Saudi Arabia AI Zone by 2028.

Plans for the AI Zone in Riyadh were jointly announced by the two companies in May 2025, with around $5bn in investment pledged towards the effort.

At the time, no timelines for construction were provided.

In November 2025, the two revealed that the site would see some 150,000 AI chips deployed, including Nvidia GB300s and AWS' Trainium chips.

AWS revealed at the LEAP event in Riyadh in late August that the first 50MW would be online by 2028.

In addition, the company said that its first cloud region remains on track to be live by December 2026.

“Saudi Arabia is home to some of the most ambitious and inventive builders, from startups and enterprises reimagining industries to public sector organizations deploying AI at scale, and the new AWS region in the country will help them to continue to innovate,” said Matt Garman, CEO of AWS.

“The launch of our new Region and our partnership with Humain will deliver the full-stack cloud and AI infrastructure to help power new industries, create jobs, and accelerate the goals of Vision 2030.”

The cloud giant first shared plans for the $5.3bn cloud region in March 2024.

The company has faced some issues in the Middle East region of late, with its Bahrain data centers repeatedly damaged during the Iran War. At the time of writing, AWS still lists its UAE cloud region as "disrupted." It has been severely impacted since the start of March 2026.
