Qatari telecoms company Ooredoo has announced that it will spin off its tower infrastructure assets.
As part of the spin off, the company has launched a standalone unit covering these assets called Al Abraj.
Al Abraj will independently operate and manage Ooredoo Qatar’s passive tower infrastructure assets in the country. To support this unit, Ooredoo has also announced the appointment of Khalid Barzak as general director of the unit.
Barzak has spent 12 years at Ooredoo, most recently serving as group senior director of partnerships and bids.
Ooredoo noted that its move to carve out its tower operations is part of the company's broader portfolio optimization strategy.
The carrier said Barzak will lead the company's push to drive the value creation of these tower assets, while expanding its existing infrastructure.
Ooredoo previously spun out its data center business last year.
The carrier operates across nine markets, spanning the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia, serving more than 150 million customers.
