Botswana has launched its first national data center.

The Tier-III certified Digital Delta Data Center (DDDC) is fully owned by Botswana’s government and will be operated under BoFiNet, one of the country’s telcos.

The 1,000 sqm (10,763 sq ft) colo facility is located in the capital, Gaborone. According to Data Center Map, this is also where most of the country’s colocation data centers are located.

Details about capacity were not provided, but the data center’s website lists the facility as offering 400 racks.

The facility’s groundbreaking ceremony took place in March 2021. DCD previously reported that it was expected to be available from October 2023, but the reasons for the two-year delay are still unclear.

DCD has followed up with the Botswana Ministry of Communications and Innovation.

The data center was built by Chinese construction contractor Zhong Gan with backing from the China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation company.
