Data center firm Ada Infrastructure has started work on another new data center in Tokyo.

“Last week, we held the groundbreaking ceremony for our fifth project in Japan, as well as the third and final building at Tokyo's TKW1 campus,” Ada announced on LinkedIn this week.

Ada broke ground on the first building at the TKW1 campus in August 2023. Work on the second began in May 2024. The campus will total two 10MW buildings and one 11MW facility. The first was due to go live in May 2025; the second is due to go live in 2027.

“Our third groundbreaking ceremony, second in Tokyo in just four months. Ada is truly moving at an unprecedented pace,” said Ras Scollay, principal, revenue and product lead, APAC at Ada Infrastructure.

Ada was founded by Singapore-based logistics-focused real estate firm GLP in 2023 to develop and hold the firm’s non-Chinese data center assets. Ada and GLP’s other international assets were acquired by Ares in 2024.

The firm previously outlined plans to invest ~$12 billion over five years to deliver 900MW of data center capacity in Japan. The company currently has plans to build five campuses totaling 600MW; four in Tokyo (TKW1, TKW2, TKE1, and TKE2) and one in Osaka.

Tokyo West 2 will offer 295MW across eight five-story buildings by 2026; Tokyo East 1 will offer 66MW across three four-story buildings by 2026; and Tokyo East 2 will offer 190MW across four four-story buildings from 2027.

Ada also has projects in development in the UK and Brazil.
