Data center investment company Accelerated Infrastructure Capital (AIC) is partnering with Romanian operator ClusterPower for a new campus.
The companies this week announced an equity partnership agreement to co-develop a new 800MW AI data center region in southwestern Romania.
Under the agreement, ClusterPower and AIC will expand the existing operating facilities in Mischii, Craiova (MSC1) in three new phases to accommodate more than 500MW of capacity.
A second site in Fauresti (FRS1), 30km from Mischii, is also aiming to accommodate a further 300MW.
Accelerated Infrastructure Capital was formed in 2023 by the co-founders of APAC data center firm Chayora. The company is a global investment and management advisory platform for data centers and digital infrastructure, with a focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets worldwide. AIC is involved in plans to develop a 200MW data center campus in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
ClusterPower was founded in 2019. The company broke ground on the first data center in Mischii in October 2021, launching the first phase in April 2022.
“ClusterPower brings the secured land and power to the partnership and its established and operational existing facilities, including an owned onsite substation and onsite power generation. AIC is leading on capital structuring and is also leveraging its established relationships and experience,” the companies said.
The companies said the MSC1 campus can accommodate 10MW today, with 70MW to be delivered to RFS by the end of 2026. This will be followed by a further 144MW to RFS by the end of 2027 and the final 288MW to RFS by the end of 2028/early 2029, for a total of 512MW. The FRS1 campus will reportedly offer an additional 300MW from 2029.
Cosmin Georgescu, CEO and founder of ClusterPower, said: “Together with AIC, we are developing one of Europe’s largest AI-focused data center regions, powered by our Nvidia-certified infrastructure, on-site low-carbon energy generation, and proven large-scale delivery expertise. Our goal is to position Romania as a strategic hub for AI innovation, providing hyperscale capacity and world-class capabilities to the leading technology players driving the next wave of digital transformation.”
Oliver Jones, managing partner and co-founder of AIC, added: “We are excited to have the opportunity to be part of this new strategic EU market with ClusterPower. We recognise clearly that success will be centred on those locations where immediately available power with hyperscale expansion capacity exists, enabling accelerated deployment and rapid market access - and in Mischii and Fauresti we have exactly that combination.”
