This episode will be available to stream at 11:00am ET

AI workloads continue to push the limits of data center infrastructure, and cooling systems are being re-evaluated, from their design and architecture to the materials used inside the liquid cooling loop. Copper has long been the standard, but its cost, weight and supply challenges are driving interest in alternatives such as aluminum.  The challenge is ensuring reliable performance when aluminum, copper and stainless steel are used together. This session will explore how coolant chemistry may help address corrosion risks in mixed-metal cooling systems, drawing on insights from a six-month study conducted under conditions representative of direct-to-chip cooling.  Attendees will learn:

  • Why aluminum is attracting interest as an alternative to copper in AI liquid cooling
  • The corrosion considerations associated with combining different metals in one cooling loop
  • How coolant chemistry can influence system stability, corrosion control and thermal performance
  • What the research could mean for cost, weight, sustainability and long-term reliability as cooling systems scale
