Principal Program Manager, Microsoft

Paul is a Principal Program Manager on the Microsoft Energy and Sustainability Team and is based in Portland, Oregon. In his role at Microsoft, Paul helps lead global renewable energy procurement to meet Microsoft’s 100% bundled renewable energy supply by 2025 and carbon negative by 2030 goals. Paul’s interest in in carbon-free energy began in West Africa, where he spent two years working to establish a USAID regional commodities exchange platform. He also saw the health and economic benefits of solar, storage and wireless connectivity for communities across the West Africa. He started his career in the renewable energy industry with Avangrid Renewables in 2010. In his various roles at Avangrid Renewables, Paul managed the company’s national unbundled REC portfolio, ERCOT wind assets on the asset management team and managed, supported and led contract negotiations for new renewable energy projects across the WECC. His extensive experience in the US, specifically the Pacific Northwest and WECC markets, has allowed him to structure multiple unique and innovative supply structures in the region, both as a seller and a buyer. In his role at Microsoft, Paul has led and supported contract negotiations in the US, Latin America, APAC and Europe. Paul is passionate about the impact we can have to decarbonize energy supply with the right mix of thoughtful complexity and willing and intentional teams. He spends his free time with his wife, daughter, and dog, enjoying the rivers, mountains, and forests of the Pacific Northwest.
