Nickel-zinc battery provider ZincFive has surpassed 1GW in delivered and contracted power.
In a recent LinkedIn post, the Oregon-based company said its patented nickel-zinc batteries offer better safety, reliability, and sustainability in comparison to its lead-acid and lithium-ion counterparts.
ZincFive said it has increased its investment in the US, with plans in the pipeline to expand battery manufacturing and product development.
The expansion is fueled by the rising demand for data center infrastructure and AI growth, said the company.
“As ZincFive continues to innovate with our powerful, safe, and reliable nickel-zinc battery technology, reaching the 1GW milestone demonstrates that our product lineup meets the evolving demands of the industry,” said Tim Hysell, CEO and co-founder of ZincFive.
He added: “With a strong focus on sustainability, we and our customers are committed to reducing carbon footprints while ensuring top-notch safety and performance.”
ZincFive has been promoting nickel-zinc batteries for more than ten years.
While lithium-ion batteries are criticized for their potential danger due to thermal runaway, which has caused serious fires, including an outage in December 2022 that brought down South Korea's Kakao Talk social media application, nickel-zinc batteries are claimed to have minimal maintenance requirements, and no danger of thermal runaway, while providing high reliability for mission-critical data centers.
Data center firm Corscale has been using ZincFive’s nickel-zinc batteries at its Gainesville Crossing data center campus in Northern Virginia since 2022.
