Data center developer Zerra DC has acquired a former automotive plant site in Melbourne, Australia, for a potential data center development.

As reported by the Urban Developer and Green Street News, Zerra DC has acquired the site of a former Ford car assembly plant for a planned data center campus.

The company acquires lots at 300-340 Barry Road at Campbellfield, north of Melbourne.

According to a planning permit application with the state of Victoria, the company is to develop a six-building campus on the site. Full details haven’t been shared. Zerra filed the application in April.

The Broadmeadows Assembly Plant opened in 1959. The 45-acre site was closed in 2016 after Ford ended manufacturing in Australia. The site was sold to the Pelligra Group in 2019 and rebranded to the Assembly Broadmeadows Industrial Park.

Owned by investment firm AGP, Zerra DC has data center developments planned across India, Japan, and Australia. The company was previously known as AGP DC.

Founded in 2018, AGP has also invested in a data center in Mumbai, India, alongside Digital Edge. The company says it has 920MW of secured capacity across the US, India, Japan, and Australia.

The Economic Times of India recently reported that Zerra had secured $127 million in funding from Tata Capital for the development of another data center in Navi Mumbai, India.
