Australia's Zella DC has launched an upgraded line of rugged outdoor micro data centers.
The company this week introduced the Zella Outback to serve Edge data center use cases in harsh environments, supporting applications like telecommunications, smart cities, mining, and agriculture.
Compared to Zella’s existing micro data center offerings, the new line features improved insulation for better protection against the environment; upgraded access control including remote pin management and multi-factor authentication; modular panels for quicker and easier maintenance; customizable appearance that can be tailored to the required environment or branding; and optional fireproofing measures and an improved condenser cage.
Available in three sizes and equipped with a built-in PDU, each model includes the option to add a factory-installed UPS, a battery bank, and a fire protection system.
The integrated cooling system is located in the base; the system can offer single or dual cooling, with the latter featuring two independent cooling systems that operate together or can run in a rotation mode.
Outback is available in 12RU, 23RU, and 36RU configurations. The former size can offer up to 3.5kW of cooling, with the latter two sizes offering up to 10kW in a dual cooling configuration. The company said the system should have an average lifespan of ten years.
Previously known as Zellabox, Zella DC was founded in Perth, Western Australia, and offers a number of micro data center products – self-contained, single-rack data center pods that can be deployed inside buildings or outside.
Zella previously offered a line of outdoor micro data centers known as Zella Huts that are no longer listed on the company's website. Japan’s IIJ has previously deployed a 12U Zella Hut at its Shiroi Data Center Campus in Shiroi, Chiba Prefecture.
