YTL Power International and Nvidia Corporation have signed an agreement to develop $2.36 billion of AI infrastructure in Malaysia.

The investment will see the development of an AI data center in the country, in addition to a cluster of Nvidia GPUs, all of which will be powered by green energy.

As reported by Bernama Biz, Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengju Zafrul wrote in a post on X that the agreement further includes the development of a sovereign large language model for Malaysia, and that Nvidia and YTL will develop an AI ecosystem in collaboration with technology partners, suppliers, and local contractors.

Details of the AI data center, including capacity, timelines, and exact locations, have not been shared.

YTL Power, via its subsidiary YTL AI Cloud, is already developing the "YTL Green Data Center Campus." Set to go live in Q3 2025, the data center campus in Johor, Malaysia, will have up to 72MW of capacity. Earlier this year, the company said it would offer Nvidia GB200s via Nvidia DGX Cloud from the campus, and eventually house Blackwell Ultra GPUs.

Prior to that, YTL and Nvidia previously announced plans to develop $4.3 billion in artificial intelligence cloud and supercomputer infrastructure in Malaysia in December 2023.

It is likely that the latest investment commitment is for the same project. DCD has contacted YTL for clarification, and to find out if the latest investment commitment builds on or is part of the previously stated $4.3bn.

YTL Power International is a subsidiary of YTL Corporation, a Malaysian infrastructure conglomerate that ranks among the largest companies on the Kuala Lumpur stock exchange.

The company also operates a data center in Singapore and an Edge data center in Sentul, Malaysia.
