Data center firm Yondr Group has handed over its Johor data center in Malaysia to its customer.

The 25MW facility is the company’s first operational data center in the APAC region. Delivered six months ahead of schedule, it is the first phase of a 98MW project that is part of a planned data center campus located in Johor’s Sedenak Tech Park.

The campus spans 72.5 acres and will offer 300MW of capacity at full buildout.

First announced in March 2022 and energized in March 2024, the campus is backed by more than $900m in financing.

Development director Aksel Vansten said: “Yondr entered the Malaysian data center market just three years ago and became one of Johor’s pioneers, joined by some of the largest data center developer-operators and cloud AI/ML end users in the globe."

Johor’s physical closeness to Singapore has led to developers capitalizing on overspill from the city-state amid capacity issues and a now-overturned 2019 moratorium on new data center developments.

Yondr develops, owns, and operates data centers. It has more than 83MW of capacity operational, with 878MW in contracted capacity. The company has projects in Virginia, Canada, the UK, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, and India.

Headquartered in London, it was previously owned by single-family investment office Cathexis, Apollo Global Management, and Mubadala. DigitalBridge, an investment firm, acquired Yondr for an undisclosed amount in October 2024.
