Vietnamese tech unicorn VNG is merging two of its units into an AI cloud computing provider.

As reported by The Investor, VNG is merging its VNG Cloud unit with its AI infrastructure unit GreenNode. The merged company is set to operate under the GreenNode branding.

The combined platform will offer traditional cloud computing services, as well as AI services.

VNG's CEO, Kelly Wong, said that the move is part of the company's strategy to see all elements as parts of a single infrastructure stack, and that "the goal is to strengthen our competitiveness and readiness to meet rising demand across Southeast Asia."

According to The Investor, prior to the merger, VNG Cloud was one of the country's leading cloud providers, with some 1,000 enterprise customers.

In partnership with STT GDC, VNG has two data centers located in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, with a combined IT capacity of more than 69MW. The company also lists a cloud region in Ha Noi.

GreenNode, while operating as a separate unit, teamed up with Nvidia to establish GPU clusters in its data centers.

GreenNode lists locations in Vietnam, as well as in Thailand, both of which it said were equipped with Nvidia H100s.

Established in 2004 and formerly known as VinaGame, VNG is an Internet services company founded in Vietnam.

Its businesses include online games, eCommerce, messaging and social media platforms, a music streaming service, and digital payments. The company offers cloud services via its VNG Cloud unit.

A VNG data center in Hanoi opened in 2007. In its most recent earnings call, the company posted a 30 percent Year-on-Year increase in operating profit and a revenue of $109.98 million, up 12 percent.
