Verizon has appointed former Deutsche Telekom technology executive Abdu Mudesir, according to reports.

German publication Handelsblatt reports that Mudesir will replace Joe Russo when he retires in the coming months.

Mudesir left Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of US telecoms giant T-Mobile, earlier this year after requesting to leave the carrier. It was noted at the time that Mudesir would "take on a new professional role abroad."

Handelsblatt has reported that he will pitch up at Verizon, working under CEO Dan Schulman.

The publication reports that Schulman informed employees in a message that Mudesir will be joining the telco. He told employees that "Abdu is an executive with great imagination," in the internal memo.

He will join the eleven-member leadership team under Schulman, though a transition date is not yet known.

Russo is set to depart Verizon after 30 years at the US carrier.

Mudesir joined Deutsche Telekom in 2018 as VP of vendor strategy and 5G technologies. He was only promoted to the board in October after spending more than three years as group CTO.

His request to leave Deutsche Telekom was approved by the company's supervisory board by mutual agreement.
