Hyperscale company Vantage Data Centers has acquired Etix Everywhere and secured plots of land across Europe for five data center campuses.
The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the company's overall European expansion was billed at $2 billion. $800 million of the funds were raised in new equity capital provided by Vantage’s current investors and a new commitment from Digital Colony Partners.
Going big
Etix currently operates more than 50MW of modular data center capacity across 12 facilities, primarily in 'second-tier' EMEA cities, but recently shifted to focus more on hyperscale developments. It currently has a 55MW hyperscale campus under development in Offenbach, Germany, near Frankfurt.
“The Etix team and I are thrilled to join Vantage,” former Etix CEO, Antoine Boniface, said. “The experience that Vantage brings with North American-based hyperscale, cloud and wholesale customers, combined with Etix’s European experience and Frankfurt hyperscale campus, creates a compelling platform that is ideally positioned to serve customers across Europe.”
Boniface will become Vantage's new president of Europe. CEO Sureel Choksi said: “The acquisition of Etix accelerates our expansion to Frankfurt, Europe’s highest growth hyperscale market. We are very excited to welcome Antoine and his team to lead our European business.”
Along with the acquisition, Vantage will develop several new data center campuses: In Berlin, there will be a 64MW campus on 13 acres (5 hectares); in Frankfurt, a 55MW campus on 8 acres (3 hectares); in Milan, a 32MW campus on 17 acres (7 hectares); in Warsaw a 64MW campus on 12 acres (5 hectares); and in Zurich a 40MW campus on 7 acres (3 hectares).
“Vantage’s expansion into Europe is the company’s next step in becoming a premier, global hyperscale data center provider,” Marc Ganzi, CEO of Digital Colony, said. “We are excited to support their team, their customers and their growth plan, and fueling Vantage Europe’s rapid build-out.”
