The US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has selected HPE's GreenLake service to develop its Distributed Hybrid Multi-Cloud (DHMC) prototype.
DISA, the support agency of the US Department of Defense (DoD), will use HPE GreenLake hardware & software via a phased-acquisition approach.
Once HPE has developed the prototype on HPE GreenLake, DISA will be able to manage its IT infrastructure and resources across public and private clouds through one hybrid, multi-cloud platform.
GreenLake is HPE's cloud-to-Edge offering, bringing cloud capabilities to an organization's on-premise data center.
The solution hopes to bring together DISA's isolated infrastructure environments within DISA's J9 Hosting and Compute (HaC) into one offering, and reduce DISAS's IT footprint, costs, and complexity. Currently, the HaC is made up of multiple hosting environments, all of which are isolated from one another.
HPE will work with Iron Bow Technologies on the prototype, which will be deployed in DISA's data centers in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and Ogden, Utah.

DISA hopes that the HPE GreenLake solution will enable the department to scale and accelerate communications, and to apply artificial intelligence and data analytics, aiding warfighters.
DISA is headquartered in Fort Meade, Maryland, and provides direct support for joint warfighters and military operations for missions and coalition partners.
Other customers of HPE GreenLake include the UK Government's Crown Commercial Service, Barclays, and soccer team owner OL Groupe.
