A data center may be coming to Lima, Ohio.
Citing Allen County’s Economic Development Group, LimaOhio reports an unnamed operator is considering developing a data center campus in American Township, just north of Lima.
According to Allen Economic Development Group president and CEO Cynthia Leis, the company behind this data center has not yet been disclosed yet, as this potential development is in its very early stages.
The mystery company is reportedly considering a site totaling 170 acres on North Cole Street between Beery and Irvin Roads. The site is currently comprised of agricultural land.
Following a public meeting on the project, Hometown Stations reports the site could host up to three buildings and an AEP substation. Further details on the specifications of any planned data centers have not been shared. The township zoning board is set to meet on the proposal in December.
“The [task] we’re in the process of right now is getting approval on the conditional use permit for the use of a data center on a particular parcel in American Township,” said Leis. “So what will happen now is that has been presented to the American Township Board of Zoning Appeals.”
Microsoft was previously exploring developing a data center campus in Lima, around nearby Perry Township. However, the company announced it had backed out of the project in October. It’s unclear if Microsoft is behind this new proposal.
