Real estate firm Thor Equities Group has acquired land in Ohio for a data center campus.

The company this week announced the acquisition of a 221-acre site in Van Wert County, Ohio, for data center development.

The site is located along US-30, approximately 35 miles southeast of Fort Wayne, Indiana and 124 miles northwest of Columbus, Ohio.

Thor said the campus could deliver up to 500MW of power. The site has "potential to expand significantly" beyond the initial 221 acres, according to the firm. Timelines for development weren't shared.

“The acquisition in Ohio is a standout in the midwest’s expanding data center market,” said Joe Sitt, chairman of Thor Equities Group. “Its prime location and existing utilities and infrastructure make it a rare and valuable asset for future-proof data center industry.”

News that a data center could be coming to Van Wert surfaced earlier this year. Van Wert’s Mega Site property, owned by local non-profit the Marsh Foundation, is located between Highway 30, Gilliland Road, and Marsh Road in Van Wert County.

The Van Wet Independent confirmed children's charity Marsh Foundation sold 221 acres in the mega site to Thor, though terms haven't been shared.

Thor said the Van Wert acquisition marks a continued expansion of its Form8tion data center platform.

Founded in 1986, Thor has traditionally focused on retail, residential, and industrial buildings. Its portfolio spans locations in the US, Europe, and Latin America. Thor's data center developments are managed through its Form8tion unit, founded in March 2023.

Form8tion broke ground on its Madrid campus in July of that year, and is planned to eventually have an IT capacity of more than 100MW across 60,000 sqm (645,835 sq ft).

The company bought a 270-acre parcel of land in LaGrange, Georgia, last year for a data center development. With 50MW available now, the company says the site could total 400MW. Phase I is due for delivery around Q4 2026.

It is also trying to get a 520-acre campus through planning outside Detroit, Michigan.
