T-Mobile has unveiled a portable 5G private network-in-a-box device that can be deployed in less than 48 hours.

According to the carrier, the product, dubbed '5G On Demand,' includes the setup, teardown, and network management of a 5G private network.

The carrier claims that the product provides all the necessary infrastructure to support data-intensive applications, while making 5G private network deployment more efficient.

T-Mobile said the product is designed to support several industries including media and entertainment, oil and gas, and construction.

Mobile World Live reports that the box is supported by Ericsson's private 5G network, and weighs around 200 pounds.

T-Mobile said that 5G On Demand will be commercially available by the end of the year.

Providing an example of the product's capabilities, T-Mobile noted that both the PGA Championship with CBS Sports and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship with NBC Sports utilized 5G On Demand at the respective events.

The telco explained that its technology, combined with Sony’s PDT-FP1 portable data transmitters and ultra-low latency encoders/decoders, meant that Sony’s FX6 cameras were able to reach glass-to-glass latency of under 100 milliseconds.

T-Mobile said its 5G on Demand box will help businesses save costs on fiber dependency, plus boost operational efficiency and flexibility, while supporting remote production, which has long been touted as one of the big 5G use cases.

“With 5G On Demand, T-Mobile is transforming how businesses and organizations implement 5G private networks, prioritizing cost-efficiency and simplicity,” said Mishka Dehghan, SVP, strategy, product and solutions engineering, T-Mobile Business Group.

“We're making it easier than ever to set up powerful networks, empowering teams to focus on what they do best — delivering exceptional content and services without the complications of traditional infrastructure.”
