A man has been arrested in Hawkins County, Tennessee, for vandalizing a cell tower.

The vandalism against the telecoms infrastructure led to network outages early on Sunday morning (September 6).

According to a statement put out by the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) via social media, the attack happened during the early hours on Sunday.

The Sheriff's Office noted that the damage was caused by "vandals," suggesting that more than one person was responsible for the damage, as additional cellular and private communication towers were also damaged and burglarized.

Shortly after 5am, the Hawkins County EMA and E-911 Director restored emergency services to operational status.

An investigation was immediately launched by detectives at HCSO and the Fugitive Unit, and by 3pm on the same day, a male suspect was taken into custody.

Police found items connected to the thefts and vandalism when they arrested the man, who has not yet been named.

The investigation remains ongoing. It comes after a separate incident in Kentucky last week where two men were arrested for stealing copper from a telecom tower in Lyon County.
