Switch has detailed plans for its new data center campus outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

First reported by the Post-Gazette, Switch has filed with Big Beaver Borough to develop ‘Big Beaver Data Center/Switch Pit 01-03,’ a three-building data center campus.

Each facility will total 201,690 sq ft (18,737 sqm). Filed documents suggest the site’s total backup generator capacity will total 270MW. The first phase could launch as soon as January 2028, with all three buildings live by January 2030, according to documents.

Big Beaver in Beaver County is around 40 miles (64km) northwest of Pittsburgh, close to the state border with Ohio.

Switch announced plans for a data center campus outside Pittsburgh back in May, with plans for a 382-acre data center campus in Big Beaver. Full details, however, weren’t shared.

The former Pitt International Race Complex in Wampum was acquired by Provident affiliate Wampum I LLC from BeaveRun Founders Development LLC in April. Switch, however, has now taken ownership of the site.

The 2.779-mile (4.473 km) BeaveRun Motorsports Complex opened in 2002. It was acquired by Jim and Kathy Stout in 2011 and renamed to the Pitt International Race Complex. The 400-acre site hosted amateur and professional automobile, motorcycle, and karting events. In October 2025, the Stouts announced the complex would be closing.

Founded in 2000, Switch operates its large 'Prime' data center campuses in Austin, Texas; Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada; Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Atlanta, Georgia. The firm is expanding at many of its existing sites and developing new campuses near its existing footprint.

DigitalBridge, alongside IFM Investors, took Switch private in an $11 billion deal in December 2022. Australian pension fund Aware Super invested $500m into Switch in 2023. Switch is reportedly preparing to go public again in a bumper IPO.
