APAC data center firm ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has launched a new data center in Tokyo, Japan.

“We’re proud to announce that STT Tokyo 1 is now ready for service – a major milestone as Japan’s data center market continues its rapid growth,” the company said this week.

Tokyo 1 is the first of two buildings at the company’s STT Tokyo campus within the Goodman Business Park, Inzai.

The campus will support up to 70MW of IT load when completed, with STT Tokyo 1 delivering up to 32MW.

The launch ceremony featured a traditional breaking of the sake barrel (kagami-biraki), symbolizing good fortune and new beginnings.

We are proud to play a role in elevating the country's digital ambitions to greater heights.”

STT GDC first announced plans to expand into Tokyo back in October 2021. Goodman Japan was set to develop the shell and core of the data centers and lease the buildings on a long-term basis to STT GDC, which will operate the facilities. The first building was originally expected to be ready for service in Q2 2024.

Across APAC, the Singapore-based company operates data centers across Japan, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, and South Korea.
