Construction work on Stack’s latest data center in Melbourne, Australia, has been completed.

“Celebrating the successful completion of Stack Infrastructure MEL01B data center in Melbourne, a landmark project that strengthens Australia’s critical infrastructure capability,” Australian construction firm Erilyan said on LinkedIn this week.

The three-story building will offer 36MW across 226,000 sq ft (21,000 sqm) and 12 data halls.

The 9-acre MEL01 site, located in Truganina, Victoria, will offer 180MW across four buildings at full build-out.

Erilyan was also the contractor for MEL01A, which also offers 36MW across 226,000 sq ft. MEL01C and MEL01D will each offer 54MW across 506,000 sq ft (47,008 sqm).

The company has a second campus in development in Melbourne. The 14-acre MEL02 site will offer 252MW across one 227,000 sq ft (21,090 sqm) building.

Stack entered the Australian market in 2022 after taking over three development projects owned by local developer Hickory.

Hickory first announced its ambition to move into data centers in June 2021, announcing a 25,000 sqm (269,000 sq ft) facility in Melbourne, and broke ground on the project in late 2021.

Stack launched the Melbourne site in 2023. It is also planning a 360MW campus in Sydney, New South Wales; a 28MW data center in Hume, Canberra; and a 24MW data center in Wangara, Perth – though the status of the latter project is unclear.

Stack tops out Zurich facility

In Europe, Stack has topped out its latest facility in Switzerland.

Last week saw the company announce the topping out of ZUR02, a 36MW facility in the Schaffhausen area of Zurich.

Stack has three facilities in operation and development in Switzerland, all around Zurich. ZUR1 offers 10MW across 160,875 sq ft (14,945 sqm). ZUR3 will offer 30MW.

Stack entered Switzerland in 2022 with the acquisition of local provider Safe Host, giving the company four data centers in Geneva, Zurich, and Avenches. Stack sold off its European colocation facilities to Apollo earlier this year to focus on hyperscale development.
