Stack has completed external construction work on the first building at its new campus in Stafford County, Virginia.

The company this month announced the topping out of the first building at the Stafford Technology Campus (STC).

Stack said that in just over a year, teams have logged 425,000+ hours, moved three million cubic yards of earth, and built 4,000 feet (1,219 meters) of retaining walls.

Stafford County lies to the south of Prince William County and southeast of Fauquier County, on the Potomac River. It is not known for its data center developments, though in recent years, it has lowered taxes for data center equipment.

At full build-out, STC will deliver over 1GW of capacity across 19 data centers on 500 acres, representing what the company said was the largest project investment in Stafford County’s history.

Announced in January 2025, the site was previously owned by real estate firm Peterson Companies, which first filed to rezone the land on the east side of US Route 1 at I-95 for data centers in 2023.

Stack currently lists 10 campuses in operation and/or development across Northern Virginia, totaling more than 2.4GW across around 960 acres.

It announced plans for another 144MW campus in Loudoun County, Virginia, last year. The firm has another planned in Berry Hill in Virginia’s Pittsylvania County.
