The India Asia Xpress (IAX) subsea cable is now operational in Sri Lanka.

The landing station is in Matara, a city located in the south of the country.

The project is led by Reliance Jio, one of India's largest telco companies, with the Sri Lankan portion of the cable managed by local telco Dialog Axiata.

The cable was first announced in May 2021 and arrived in Sri Lanka on April 15, 2023.

It has landing stations in Chennai and Mumbai, India; Morib, Malaysia; Hulhumale, Maldives; Singapore; and Satun, Thailand.

Dialog Axiata's total investments in “international connectivity infrastructure” have surpassed $100m, including across four submarine cables.

The company currently operates landing stations for the Maldives Sri Lanka Cable (MSC) and the Bay of Bengal Gateway (BBG) cable near Mount Lavinia, a municipality south of the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo.

The capital hosts the majority of Sri Lanka’s landing stations. The rest are located in Matara.

Dialog Axiata, formerly MTN Networks and Dialog Telekom, is one of Sri Lanka's largest telco companies. It is a subsidiary of Axiata Group Berhad, a Malaysian telecoms conglomerate.
