Update: Starlink VP of engineering Michael Nicolls said: "Starlink has now mostly recovered from the network outage, which lasted approximately 2.5 hours.

"The outage was due to [the] failure of key internal software services that operate the core network. We apologize for the temporary disruption in our service; we are deeply committed to providing a highly reliable network, and will fully root cause this issue and ensure it does not occur again."

Original story:

SpaceX's Starlink satellite Internet service is experiencing a global outage.

The platform went down the same day it launched a direct-to-device (D2D) satellite service with T-Mobile in the US.

SpaceX said in a statement: "Starlink is currently in a network outage and we are actively implementing a solution. We appreciate your patience, we'll share an update once this issue is resolved."

CEO Elon Musk added: “Service will be restored shortly. Sorry for the outage. SpaceX will remedy root cause to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

The Ukrainian military confirmed the outage on Telegram, noting that it was impacting the frontline war effort against Russia. The country has heavily used Starlink amid attacks on fixed telecoms infrastructure.

Outage tracker NetBlocks said: "Network data show a major disruption to the Starlink satellite Internet service with overall connectivity down to 16 percent of ordinary levels, corroborating user reports of an outage."

Director of Internet analysis at Kentik described the issue as a "total outage."

We will update this story as we learn more.
