South Korea's SK Telecom is partnering with Nvidia on a "gigawatt-scale" AI cloud platform in the country.

This will see SK Telecom deploy AI factories in the country based on the Nvidia DSX platform, with the first set to come online in 2027.

The Nvidia DSX is a full-stack reference architecture including software, hardware, and operations. The AI cloud platform will provide compute for AI training, inference, and agentic workloads for companies and organizations in South Korea, later expanding to other regions.

Nvidia released the Vera Rubin DSX AI Factory reference design, a guide to building data centers that support its latest CPU-GPU racks and Spectrum-X Ethernet networking and storage, in March 2026.

With Nvidia DSX, SK Telecom can build Korea’s AI cloud at scale and bring agents, enterprise and physical AI to the companies and industries that power Korea and the world.”

"Through our close partnership with Nvidia, we have now secured full-stack AI infrastructure capabilities, from chips to data center operations," added Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group. “We will work with Nvidia to tackle GPU, memory and energy challenges and become a leading AI factory player shaping Asia’s AI ecosystem.”

SK Telecom currently has a data center under construction in Ulsan, South Korea. Originally, the construction agreement for the facility was signed in June 2025, and the project began construction in early September 2025. At the time, estimates indicated that 41MW worth of capacity would be available by November 2027 and that the entire facility, amounting to 103MW of capacity, would be operational by February 2029.

But SK Telecom also announced back in November that the Ulsan facility would be expanded to accommodate 1GW of capacity, around ten times more than its previous targeted capacity. Earlier this month, the company was reportedly looking to sell a minority stake in the data center.

Nvidia has signed similar contracts in South Korea with AI cloud Naver and LG in the last week.
