Singapore's ST Telemedia (STT) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop data centers in Maharashtra, India.

The Indian division of STT’s Global Data Centre business will invest up to INR 5,000 crore ($570 million) in order to expand its existing data center parks in Mumbai and Pune. The funds will also support the development of a 27-acre campus in Palava, which is an urban township near Mumbai.

STT GDC currently operates two data center parks near Mumbai: the first is in Mumbai proper, and the second is located in Navi Mumbai. The latter currently hosts one facility, with two more beginning construction last year in November 2024. The company’s Pune data center campus currently consists of five facilities which offer up to 140MW of capacity.

The MoU was signed between STT and the Government of Maharashtra on October 16. Details about development and expansion timelines were not provided, and MoUs are generally not legally binding.

STT GDC’s India division has more than 400MW of critical IT load in operation and development across 30 facilities in 10 cities across the country. Tata Communications, one of India’s largest telcos and a constituent business of Indian conglomerate Tata Group, holds a minority stake in the business.

The company also signed an MoU with the government of Uttar Pradesh for the development of an “AI City” last December.

STT GDC operates, or is building, data centers in India, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Germany, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Italy. Its portfolio totals more than 95 data centers and 1.7GW of capacity across 11 geographies and points of presence across more than 20 markets.
