Lowe's Cos., whose slogan is "Let's Build Something Together," is considering sites for a $90 million regional distribution center in Seguin with hundreds of jobs and a $68 million data center in San Antonio, according to sources close to the deal.
Lowe's 1.4 million-square-foot distribution center would create between 600 to 1,000 new jobs, one source said. The company is looking at 100- to 200-acre sites to build it in Seguin, 35 miles east of San Antonio.
Lowe's is eyeing sites in the Westover Hills area for a 100,000-square-foot data center that would employ about 30 people and create as many as 300 construction jobs. Because negotiations are ongoing, the sources close to the deal did not want to be identified.
The Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe's, the country's second-largest home improvement chain with 1,100 stores nationwide, which reported $43.2 billion in sales last year, has announced plans to expand nationwide this year with 155 new stores, including several in Texas. In the past few years, Lowe's has grown dramatically to compete with Home Depot, the country's largest home improvement chain with 2,000 stores.
