Residents of Greenleaf, Wisconsin, were offered up to $120,000 per acre to sell their land to data center developers, according to reporting by Fox 11.

The report states that an unnamed company was looking to buy up land parcels located between Highway 57 on the east, the East River on the west, Mallard Road on the north, and Fair Road on the south.

Offers ranged between $50,000 and $120,000, according to Fox 11.

A resident said that the offer to sell their land was made via phone call, and that they were told some other residents had allegedly sold their land already.

The identity of the developer remains unknown, and DCD has asked the Village of Greenleaf whether it has received any formal application or queries from potential data center developers.

Greenleaf, a village in the east of Wisconsin and south of the city of Green Bay, does not contain a notable data center presence.

Most of the state’s data centers are located around the city of Milwaukee, located in the south.

But Wisconsin has seen some interest from major hyperscalers and data center developers as of late, including Meta, which announced the construction of a $1 billion campus spanning more than 700,000 sq ft near the city of Beaver Dam in November of last year. Meta's project has since come under scrutiny and is facing a lawsuit from environmental group Midwest Environmental Advocates.

OpenAI, Oracle, and Vantage are also building a Stargate data center in Port Washington. The facility is set to provide ‘close to a gigawatt’ of capacity across four data centers.
