Asterion Industrial Partners is reportedly looking to sell the Latin American data center portfolio that it acquired from Telefónica in 2019.

Expansion reports that the investment firm has hired investment bank Greenhill & Co. to raise buyer interest in the 11 data centers in Latin America currently operated by Nabiax.

The move was prompted by “unsolicited interest” from possible acquirers and a “re‑evaluation” of the facilities’ worth by Nabiax, according to unnamed sources.

Asterion bought 11 data centers from Telefónica for €550 million ($616 million) in 2019. The deal totaled 29MW across seven countries: two each in Argentina, Brazil, Spain, and Peru, with additional individual sites in Chile, Mexico, and the US. After the acquisition, Asterion formed Nabiax to offer colocation and hosting services across Spain and Latin America from the facilities.

In 2021 the Spanish telco then sold a further two facilities in Chile and two in Spain to the Spanish investment management firm in exchange for a 20 percent stake in Nabiax.

Asterion is seemingly looking to retain the Spanish facilities and offload the rest. Telefónica reportedly still has leasing agreements at all of the sites.

The investment company recently closed a new €1.8 billion ($2bn) infrastructure fund, the Asterion Industrial Infra Fund II FCR, to invest in energy, mobility, telecoms, and utility sectors across France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and the UK.
