QTS and its partners have topped out the three buildings at its new data center campus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The ceremony marks the completion of structural work on three buildings at the $10 billion campus.

Blackstone-owned QTS revealed its plan to develop the 612-acre site in Cedar Rapids earlier this year. It is part of the Big Cedar Industrial Center, and could eventually comprise seven data center buildings.

Planned capacity of the data center has not been disclosed, but it will use waterless cooling to chill its servers.

Iowa state governor Kim Reynolds was among those in attendance at the ceremony, but the traditional beam-raising could not take place due to high winds.

Construction work on the first phase of the data center is expected to be complete next year, and QTS is working with construction firms, the Weitz Company, and Layton Construction, on the project.

Cedar Rapids, in Linn County, is located around 120 miles (193km) east of Des Moines. It is not traditionally a large data center market. Google is also developing a campus in the area.

Blackstone-owned QTS has dozens of data centers in operation and development across the US, UK, Netherlands, and Spain.
