A 900MW data center development by Prologis called Project Sail has received the go-ahead from local planning authorities.

The Coweta County Board of Commissioners voted on Tuesday to approve a rezoning request related to the Project, effectively greenlighting the construction of a 4.34 million sq ft (403,199 sqm), nine-building campus on 832 acres of land near the city of Newnan, 45 miles south of Atlanta in Coweta County. The site is adjacent to Welcome Sargent Road and Wagers Mill Road.

The project has faced dogged opposition from residents who claim that the data center will place undue stress on the area’s resources.

A GoFundMe to support legal representation against the project, which has raised around $27,000 at the time of writing, claims that “this data center will destroy the local ecosystem, decimate wild animal habitat, and be detrimental to residents in the area.”

Members of the Stop Project Sail Newnan Data Center public Facebook group, which has around 4,800 members, are discussing whether to take legal action against the decision.

This marks the end of a lengthy planning process that began when Atlas Development LLC submitted a planning proposal to Coweta County in January 2025. Reports that Atlas was eyeing a sale of the Project Sail site to Prologis emerged in May 2025, but Prologis has not yet closed on the transaction.

Coweta County is located in the west-central region of Georgia and includes the city of Newnan. It is around 37.8 miles (60.8km) south of Atlanta.

Prologis is a real estate investment trust focusing on logistics and industrial real estate. Its data center portfolio, which includes operational and planned developments, is spread across Ohio, Illinois, Virginia, Georgia, California, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Texas in the US, as well as Paris, France.
