A data center development dubbed “Project Marvel” could come to Bessemer, Alabama.

The city council is set to consider a development plan for a $14.5 billion, 18-building data center project spanning 700 acres on November 18.

The council has previously expressed its support for the project in spite of fierce opposition.

The project was first announced back in March.

In an October press release, the council stated that it had “reaffirmed its full support for the proposed data center project, recognizing its tremendous potential to benefit the city of Bessemer, its citizens, and the State of Alabama as a whole.”

But worries about the facility’s environmental impact, its effect on local utility rates, noise pollution, and traffic have led residents to protest the Council’s support in person and online.

Of particular concern to residents is the anonymous identity of the facility’s end user, which has been hidden by an NDA. The developer, Logistic Land Investment LLC, is owned by Atlanta-based TPA Group, and the same company previously filed to build a data center in Venus, Texas, in July 2024.

Located just outside of Birmingham, which is one of Alabama’s main data center hubs, Bessemer is a city in Jefferson County. Data Center Map currently lists no data centers in the city.
